The Little Shop of Colours

Art Deco Bathroom
The Gap
Upon entering this Brisbane 1970’s two storey brick home, it was easy to see our clients’ incredible skill in bringing a stylish mid-century look and feel to their home. There was an immediate warm invitation to come on in and make yourself comfortable which perfectly suited the nature of our clients. The space, having never been touched, was in much need of it’s first bathroom renovation and there was an obvious drawcard to incorporating a mid-century design to the space.
Briswest Renovations engaged me for this Brisbane renovation project. Upon meeting with Pete Evans and the clients, it was decided that the wall tiles feature a 100 x 200mm white subway on the vertical in brick bond format with a slightly darker grout to marry with the wow factor black penny round flooring, our clients’ main wish for the space. The introduction of an inset bath allowed the classic approach of further tiling in and a lower line and level of the subway tile.
The colour palette was set off with chrome tap ware in a classic gooseneck style with delicate finishes, settling the space and bringing femininity into same. The mid - century form was followed with the simple chrome framed vanity base, covered in a clean, shiny white vanity top, it’s subtlety in no way shadowing it from the show. A simple shaver cabinet sits perfectly against the subways - as with most bathrooms, we prefer a shaver cabinet to be slightly more narrow than the vanity to ensure it does not overtake the area, in the case here it was even more necessary given the frame versus cabinetry choice. The introduction of the black wall lights allowed for the eye to have a space at height to sit for a black accessory to ensure the floor did not recede.
Dressing the space in bold golden yellow bathroom linens allows the necessary injection of colour to set off the craftsmanship of the space, the plant a point of contact for the calming of the area.
Overall, this bathroom’s layout and carefully built space has paid homage to the rest of the home and is fit to host a beautiful family. The Briswest team did a fantastic job completing this project.
